Guildford Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue was started in September 2006 by Alison and David Oakden.
Alison had loved the breed since her family took in a female from their next door neighbour when she was nine. She had to wait until she was thirty to have her own dog, when she adopted Joshua a brindle male as a puppy from Battersea Old Windsor. Joshua died in April 2006 just a few weeks off his sixteenth birthday.
When Alison saw how poplar Staffords had become and how many were being bred and then ending up abandoned or handed into rescue she started GSBTR. Alison and David had been involved in dog rescue helping ‘Dogs In Need’ a local all breed rescue for 15 years prior to setting up GSBTR.
We have three Staffords of our own Khan, Sprite and Lexus who we adopted from GSBTR in December 2008 and whose antics Alison often writes about in her blog.
Since we started GSBTR we have successfully re-homed many Staffords. Please see our success stories.
